All-Electric MX-30 Confirmed for Sales in the United States
The Mazda MX-30 is the first all-electric vehicle from the Japanese auto manufacturer and features all-new electric powertrain technology.
Planned for release in the United States in 2022, the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (EV) combines the benefits of Mazda electrification technology with a rotary generator to charge the battery. This technology allows consumers to travel more and enjoy more time behind the wheel on regular battery life that previously would not last as long.
As interest and demand for a multi-solution approach to electrification increases, the MX-30 EV is anticipated to be the introduction to additional electrified models.
And, since whispers of the MX-30 began in 2019, we have been anxiously awaiting its arrival.
MX-30 EV Engine & Powertrain
The new vehicle from Mazda is anticipated to come equipped with a 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery.
Owners are expected to have access to multiple charging stations — including Level 2 and DC fast charging solutions. And the 35.5 kWh battery can reach an 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes while using DC fast charging.
Drivers can anticipate the front-wheel drive compact crossover SUV to produce 107 (kW), which equates to 144 horsepower and 271 Nm of torque — or 200 pounds-per-feet of torque.
A nimble driving dynamic is prevalent thanks to the Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture, which was developed with the human-centered ideology.
Design Elements
Utilizing the Kodo design philosophy, the MX-30 EV offers the distinct Mazda styling — inside and out.
Drivers can find the perfect balance between futuristic design elements familiarity.
The exterior design of the crossover SUV alludes to the vehicle’s strength and beauty. But the minimalist, yet sophisticated design is similar to the Mazda lineup.
The model offers seating for five and rear half-doors that remind us of the rotary-powered RX-8.
The minimalist aesthetic continues throughout the inside of the vehicle, creating a sense of lightness and openness.
Drivers will find a blend of eco-friendly elements and exquisite craftsmanship.
Incorporating cork to the interior design is just one of the ways that Mazda has utilized the eco-friendly resource.
It is also a nod to the company’s vast history.
Technology Features
Mazda Connected Services allow drivers to monitor and control a variety of functions through the MyMazda app — like locking the doors or adjusting the climate control.
A center console that appears to float has an electronic shifter, multi-function commander knob, and shortcut buttons that can operate the infotainment system.
The seven-inch touchscreen displays information like the temperature, important vehicle information, and music.
Tactile buttons are featured on either side of the screen to control the climate.
